Hi,
Iv'e gone cold turkey too and today is my third day. I'm 30 years old and have been taking solps for approx 8 years now. Iv'e always suffered with migraines and I have a busy work/ life schedule and found that solps helped with the relief. I would take approx 2- 4 a day so not a high consumption but still unhealthy all the same.
To be honest I'm struggling at work I feel really tired and I'm craving a solpadeine however I will try and stick at it. How are you feeling and what's your story?
Hi MGooders and 73dreamer - I've never really used forums before but found myself searching for info on Solpadeine addiction when I realised (or admitted) I had a bit of a problem. I just wanted to share my experience, which is simply my view.
MGooders - my habit was almost identical to yours. I took one or two doses every day (2-4 tablets) and sometimes more (if I had been out the night before!). I'd been doing this for about 8 years too and blamed stresses at work with long commuting etc.
This year, I decided to give up and go cold turkey. I started on 5 January and I've now gone six weeks without taking any. I hope you're still doing ok and thought I'd write with just a couple of thoughts that have really helped me…
For me, I think you can attribute Solpadeiene-taking to two things…
1. NEED - this is obviously where you have symptoms or ill feeling and believe that Solpadeine will help you overcome this.
The first thing I noticed is that, simply by forcing yourself to go without for a few days (3 or 4) you WILL feel better - it might take longer for some, I don't doubt that, but you really will. There'll be occasions when you feel tired or think you have a headache but, by and large, the NEED to take tablets will reduce. It's also important to remember that, in my opinion, while Solpadeiene can give you that buzz or warm feeling to mask pain, it's also responsible for the times you feel bad - it's important to realise this. In my mind, it was important to blame Solpadeiene for feeling ill - not thanking it for being the remedy - which it is not. I now see the tablets in a different light, thinking that I don't want to take them because they will make me feel bad.
2. WANT - for me, this is different to the above in that sometimes I would just WANT to take Solpadeiene - even if I didn't have any pain or ill feeling. It might be me thinking I need to relax or simply looking forward to that sensation. But, by trying to overcome the NEED - I kept a record of how long it had been since my last dose, adding hours to the count every day (this was just my approach and kept me going) - I became proud of my progress. And I didn't want to throw this away. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I still feel the WANT, even if there is no pain, but the progress I've made outweighs this.
I still think it's early days for me - I want to go half a year without taking - that's my goal.
I still have a box at home (in my bedside table) and sometimes I'll find some in an old pair of jeans or coat pocket. For me, I quite like the fact that I have them close to hand - it sounds odd because the natural tendency would be to make sure you've got rid of them all! But this is the challenge!
Final tip (honest - sorry, I've been rambling) but there has been the odd moment over the last six weeks when I've had a headache (caused by booze normally!) or for some other reason. I've taken a paracetamol (part of the ritual) but only if really needed. I think I've taken three since 5 Jan.
I hope this is of some help - I know my doseage wasn't huge to start with but, as I say, I had been taking it for so long. Hate to think of what it was doing to me!

I went cold turkey last year (Tuesday 22nd April to be exact)I had been on Solpadeine for around 10 years taking 6-8 per day. I tried gradually reducing the dose but always found an excuse to have 'just one more'. My whole life revolved around these things. Making sure I had some in my bag at all times. My giving up wasn't really planned. I just mis-calculated my 'stock' and ran out. Instead of panicking I just decided OK, that's it, no more. I was very fortunate in that I didn't suffer any side effects. I still had the urge to take them but instead drank a small amount of water (about the same amount I would dissolve a tablet in). I rarely even think about them these days. I think I have been lucky to give up relatively easily having looked at what some people go through. All I can say is, keep it up. It's definitely worth it to get that monkey off your back.
