Hi
I was addicted to Solpadeine for over 20 years. I originally took it as it was the only thing that cured my migraines. I did try on numerous occasions cut down methods but usually something would crop up to reverse any progress. I understand the side affects or dangers of stopping all together but that was the only way I could do it. I was taking over 10 and probably up to 20 a day at times. In fact in a morning I would take 4 at a time instead of 2.
My main motivation to stop was I could see my children start to take them for headaches and didn't want them in the house any more.
I was fortunate to be on a 3 week holiday when I stopped. The hot weather and lack of outside pressures seem to help. I was prepared for the worst but kept telling myself how glad I was that I wasn't a solpadeine user any more. It was easier to endure the inevitable headaches on holiday. At the end it felt like I had got rid of the craving, but seem to come back when I got home. Another couple of weeks back at work then it got easier.
I have not taken a Solpadiene for about 6 years now and hardly get any headaches. I wouldnt now dare have anything with coediene in it.
So the reason for this post, not to say I was successful but hopefully offer some tips from someone who thought it was practically impossible to come off these.
For some people the only way is to stop all together. Pick a time that is not stressful like a holiday. Even consider unpaid leave for a month. Be prepared that it may be tough and tell a close friend who will not judge you but support you. If you have a bad day and just need one solp that day and then continue…..dont, you will undo all the hard work.
For some gradual reduction will work, but for me I would never have come off them that way. Once I was down to half a tablet twice a day, but still couldn't stop.
Hope this may help.
